Tasks of the board of directors

The Board of Directors is composed of unpaid members. He is responsible for the construction, operation and maintenance of the “Rhein-Valley Hospital Healthcenter” at the school Maji Moto. The main task of the board is to raise the necessary donations. The association is committed to providing basic medical care and clean drinking water in the long term. The Rhine Valley Hospital Board of Directors has been able to make many things happen. It still needs a lot of commitment and support to never let the young hope down again.

I like to help people who don’t have it as good as I do. When I took over the presidency there was only one idea. The task was to find a way to realize the exciting project in a foreign country. Who has the chance to build a hospital. I was very attracted to this task. But the road was very rocky and I also had sleepless nights. But the most important thing has always been that our hospital benefits only the poorest people. It is very sad when many children and adults die from simple, curable diseases just because there is no money for treatment and medication. Unfortunately, Kenya does not have a culture of helping the poorest. A big problem, of course, is corruption, and it’s mostly about power and self-interest. All the greater is the joy today that the hospital in Kasambara-Gilgil has provided reliable, basic medical care for the destitute between May 2004 and July 2021. Now we are building up our health center at the Maji Moto school and can count on the reliable cooperation with our partner association Shilling for Shilling. We also use 100 percent of the donations for these services in this project. Today, this is my greatest motivation to lead the association and for this we need committed board members as well as the control of the finances and the project management on site by Levi and Kerstin Amudala.

Erich Kühnis - Präsident

I have been an active member of the Rhine Valley Hospital Board of Directors since 2006. As the person responsible for “Media”, I use my professional know-how for the association. I was able to start my engagement right away with a trip to Kenya, where I realized first film recordings of the hospital in Kasambara-Gilgil. The constructive work in our board and the enormous commitment of the project management on site, motivate me every day. Our health center at the Maji Moto school – similar to our first project – will again become a model for other development projects in Africa. I am committed to this with great pleasure.

Benjamin Pipa - Vizepräsident

In 2010 I started my work as treasurer in the association. I can say that I am doing well. Being on the board gives me the opportunity to do something good. I want to give hope to people who are not on the sunny side of life and are grateful for every sign of solidarity.

Eveline Alder - Finanzen

I live in Heerbrugg and work as an editor at Galledia Regionalmedien AG in Berneck. In April 2006, I traveled to Kasmabara-Gilgil as a guest to write a situation report on the Rhine Valley Hospital in Kasambara-Gilgil. My return was followed by my election to the board. Since then, I have been in charge of the press department. After we had to close the hospital in Kasambara-Gilgil, the cooperation of our partner association Shilling for Shilling gave us the opportunity to offer basic medical care to disadvantaged people in another region of Kenya. In October 2022, I traveled to the country again and was able to celebrate the opening of the “Rhine-Valley Hospital Healthcenter” at the Maji Moto school. Now I would like to convey to as many people as possible how the Rheintaler Verein can achieve great things and give hope.

Monika von der Linden - Presse

Kenya and its people fascinate me very much. I am proud to have served on the Rhine Valley Hospital Board of Directors since 2018. A few years ago I visited the hospital in Kasambara-Gilgil and was also able to be present at the opening of the infirmary in Maji Moto. I like to do my part so that the children in this region can go to school and get treatment when their health is not good.

Susanne Ganz - Administration

I joined the board in early 2023. I am impressed by what the association has achieved so far. I am happy to contribute my knowledge of social media to the association. We want as many people as possible to know what we want to achieve or have already achieved. And social media complements our existing way of communicating how we use the donations entrusted to us.

Michi Vogt - Social Media

I have known the Rhine Valley Hospital Association for many years. In April 2006, I was allowed to visit the hospital in Kasambara-Gilgil as a twelve-year-old boy. What I experienced there has motivated me to serve on the board since the beginning of 2023. I now used my professional knowledge to promote the new project, the infirmary at Maji Moto school. I am happy to do my part to inform donors about our work and successes and to motivate them to continue to place their trust in us.
